Portobello is actually several markets rolled into one, all penned in by Notting Hill Gate tube at one end and Ladbroke Grove tube at the other. The stalls start with antiques (between Chepstow Villas and Elgin Crescent); further up are the grocers (between Elgin Crescent and Talbot Road); and emerging designer and vintage threads are found under the Westway. The majority of the food stalls (intermingled with some fashion traders) are open weekdays, but the market comes alive at the tail end of the week when the antiques and vintage traders pitch up. Saturdays are manically busy so head out early, especially if you're serious about buying antiques. Friday is less hectic and one of the best days for sourcing clothes from fresh fashion designers. If you want to escape the crowds, check out the fantastic shops lining the surrounding streets or head up to Westbourne Park Road.
