The main hall at Seymour used to house one of the most attractive swimming pools in London which measured, bizarrely, 44 yards. Now a floor seems destined to cover it permanently, giving over the space to racquet sports and five-a-side football. Swimmers are still catered for in a bright but narrow 30-metre pool that's also used for sub-aqua. There's a large GLL gym here, an extensive programme of classes, a physio practice and a beauty salon in the basement. Good value considering its location.

Previously renowned for its professional, highly-trained teachers and welcoming atmosphere, the Seymour is currently a leisure centre in crisis. Dirty equipment, class cuts, absent teachers and a general lack of leadership are threatening this much-loved local centre. The Seymour has a devoted following and huge potential but since the new owners took over a general air of neglect and confusion hangs over the place. Under inspired and innovative control the Seymour has the potential to be a really lively, buzzy centre offering classes to all. At present, however, all the members can sense is neglect and confusion.
