There's some jazz on the schedule here, but this two-floor club deals more in soul, R&B and hip hop these days, and has become the first port of call for soon-to-be-huge US acts (Mary J Blige, John Legend and The Roots all played their first European dates here). The Jazz Café opened in 1990, on the site of a former Barclays Bank and has a capacity of 350 with a restaurant on the first floor. Acts that made their name there include Maceo Parker and Courtney Pine. The Jazz Café also has a strong reggae tradition with the likes of Lee Scratch Perry, The Skatalites and Max Romeo all regulars.
