Often disregarded by critics as a suburban venue, Richmond Theatre holds impressive sway with audiences beyond TW9. In terms of gravitas, the gorgeous 1899 building certainly helps – Richmond’s insistence on using questionable celebrities in their pantos (Bonnie Langford as Peter Pan anyone?) does not. Christmas theatre aside, patient locals are rewarded with high-profile fare as productions are often road-tested here before hitting the West End, or stop off as part of a post-West End tour.
