The London Symphony Orchestra's conversion of the decaying Hawksmoor-designed St Luke' church into a rehearsal room, music education centre and 370-seat concert hall cost around £20 million, but it was worth every penny. The programme takes in lunchtime recitals (some free), evening chamber concerts, and even some jazz and rock shows, with the likes of Elton John, Sting and Bruce Springsteen among the list of past performers.
The pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet performs Debussy's Three Préludes (from Book 1); Dutilleux's Three Préludes; Ohana's Three Etudes (from Book 1); and Debussy's Three Etudes (from Book 2).
The St Lawrence String Quartet performs Haydn's String Quartet in C, Op 54 No 2; Ravel's String Quartet in F; and John Adams's String Quartet (UK premiere).
