There's an art-deco flourish to the Cambridge Theatre's late 1920s architecture - though you're more likely to spot its billboards screaming over its quaint Seven Dials locale. 'Chicago' (at the Cambridge since 2006) is its current long-running musical, regularly refreshed by a rolling roster of celebrity blondes (Jennifer Ellison and Denise Van Outen among them) playing jailbird Roxie Hart. Populist productions fare well at this Covent Garden venue - Bruce Forsyth and Tommy Steele were both hits here, as was the bizarre 'Return to the Forbidden Planet' - but its past also reveals some arty moments. John Mortimer's 1960 debut 'The Wrong Side of the Park' opened at Cambridge and Ingmar Bergman directed Maggie Smith in the title role of 'Hedda Gabler' in 1970.
