This Swiss-owned gallery opened in 2003 in a former Midland bank (designed in 1922 by celebrated architect Sir Edwin Lutyens), complete with intact basement vaults. Described by the Financial Times in 2008 as 'a marketplace for ideas', Hauser & Wirth is one of Europe's leading international galleries. Key to its success is its glittering roster which features over 30 established and emerging artists including such heavyweights as Louise Bourgeois and Paul McCarthy, international names such as Anri Sala and Pipilotti Rist, and homegrown talents such as Martin Creed. In 2006, Hauser & Wirth opened a separate shared gallery space on Old Bond Street which hosts a stellar array of annual exhibitions ranging from Francis Picabia nudes to a Zaha Hadid-designed Henry Moore exhibition.
Work by Louise Bourgeois, Lynda Benglis and Alina Szapocznikow.
