As the largest and most prestigious Black film festival, as well as the largest Black History Month event in the country, the Pan African Film Festival screens more than 150 films made by and/or about people of African descent from the United States, Africa, the Caribbean, South America, the South Pacific, Latin America, Europe and Canada. Celebrating its 21st anniversary, the annual event includes the Night of Tribute ceremony, which this year will honor actors Omari Hardwick and Nicole Beharie with the Canada Lee and Beah Richards Rising Star awards, respectively. Additionally, Artfest, a show that exhibits the work of more than 100 established and emerging artists and craftspeople from around the world accompanies the film festival.
