Venice is known for many things, from its laidback lifestyle to its beach bums and trendy culture, but soon, the area may be known for its burgeoning music scene. Last Saturday saw the first Venice Music Crawl, a day-long event featuring over 50 artists at a handful of venues along Lincoln Boulevard. The VMC's self-professed goal is to initiate a grassroots movement to build a music scene on the Westside. The mainly free event (with a few places charging covers for charity) attracted music lovers of all ages and the hand-picked artists covered genres from upbeat DJs and disco tunes to intimate acoustic sessions. With the handy VMC app that provided maps to all the venues and lineups at each, navigating the length of Lincoln Boulevard was easy to do. The event garnered a lot of community support, introducing not only bands but local businesses to attendees, and there is already rumors from the VMC Facebook page for another crawl to come soon.
