You can't miss this new arrival as you drive up from LAX or Marina del Rey: topped with a glowing neon sign announcing its name, it's the only all-black building on the horizon. Things are more colourful inside, but no less stylish: the lobby opens out into a sleek but playful bar area (say hello to the sheep), and there's also a restaurant (Bistrotek) and a beautifully designed pool area at the back (the Hopscotch Pool Bar & Grill). The rooms are lovely, comfortable beds supplemented by quirky design touches and all mod cons. There's not much in the vicinity, but you'd be forgiven if you didn't want to leave the hotel.
