Howlin' Rain stars Comets on Fire singer Ethan Miller in a more conventional and retro-oriented project. If chilled-out, ’70s folk-rock is your thing, the band will happily take you there with its loping, piano-and-organ-drenched excursions. Miller—who has attracted fans from Rick Rubin to Queens of the Stone Age—has brought in a revolving cast of collaborators for his brand-new album, Mansion Songs—the first in an upcoming trilogy that ventures into uncharted territory. L.A.-based psychedelic surf-pop outfit The Blank Tapes will open.
