Time Out says
As Drake, Frank Ocean, Miguel and J Cole make their mark on Hip-Hop, Rap and R&B today, in comes Abel Tesfaye, the voice of The Weeknd, to mysteriously mix, re-mix and re-define it all. But with two L.A. shows (where Angeleno BANKS will open) we're banking on his secrets being revealed. The enigma began with three mixtapes (House of Balloons, Thursday, Echoes of Silence)—combining original artwork, sensual lyrics and psychedelic beats—that generally sang of (or led to) an epic hangover. That same year (2011) came a collab with fellow Canadian Drake on "Crew Love," and a fan base who were only able to identify Tesfaye by his vocals and tweets. Despite his recent record deal, debut at Coachella and engaging website which (we're guessing purposely) lacks an "about the artist" section, it seems the Weeknd likes to stay in the dark with his tunes.
