This is one of the few eateries in LA that offers innovative versions of Oaxacan food, a cuisine that's subtler and more interesting than run-of-the-mill Mexican fare. All right, so the mini-mall location does serve to lower expectations (little good ever comes from them), but the menu raises them again - the likes of salmon in pumpkin seed sauce, trout in salsa fresca and braised lamb are all unusual options. The food is exceptional, and the service is fluent and expert.
