In business since 1908, Philippe the Original is one of two local spots that claims to have invented the French dip sandwich. Savvy customers select the traditional lamb or lighter turkey filling, then ask the server to double-dip the bread in the meaty juice; a French-dip sandwich is also incomplete without some of the sinusclearing house mustard. The wines by the glass aren't bad, a concession to the lunch trade from nearby City Hall.

Where's the Beef its not at Philippe's !!! Years ago you got Au jus = Beef Broth to dip your French beef dip but not any more since the new owner took over. Hardly any Beef inside. The new owner went for reduced costs and he destroyed the sandwich here. Even Arbys gives a Cup of juice to dip your sandwich in. Arbys is just so so. I was so disappointed last trip to Philippes and that was ordering double beef on it. I thought I would write a review on the place every time I see somebody raving how good this place is. Its a washed has been since the last owner left years ago. Tell a Friend Don't Go. Go to the Pantry and get some Heart attack food Instead.
