Intelligentsia's gorgeous tiled patio is always chock-full with beautiful people having very important discussions. Made on machines costing thousands of dollars, the coffee is expensive, but you need only buy one drink to sit outside for hours. On hot days, the overhead misters keep everyone cool at what is the hippest daytime hangout in LA right now.
If you're after an alternative, you're in luck: a few doors along Sunset stands the Casbah Café (3900 W Sunset Boulevard, 1-323 664 7000). Housed in a pretty turquoise building, the lovely little French-Moroccan café specialises in strong coffees, fresh mint teas and big, simple salads.
