Trend watch: New home-decor lines from fashion chains

H&M, Aéropostale and Ugg Australia launch home-decor lines that reflect each fashion brand’s aesthetic.

LA’s home-decor stores may be an obvious choice when shopping for your humble abode , but a trio of fashion chains are offering reasonably priced alternatives. H&M, Aéropostale and Ugg Australia have all recently debuted their own home lines, hawking kitchenware, bedding and decorative objects that match their signature aesthetics.

Aéropostale Room

This teen-clothing chain’s debut decor line may be focused on outfitting dorm rooms with its bed-in-a-bag sets ($79–$99; include comforter, sham, flat sheet, fitted sheet, pillowcase and pillow) and dry-erase thought-bubble decals (four sheets for $17), but there are plenty of whimsical decorative accessories even adults can enjoy. Inject personality into your office cubicle with graffiti-print magazine files ($22) and paper-airplane–shaped pushpins (ten for $8), or make waste disposal less icky by using laser-cut floral trash bins ($30). Best of all, the assortment of desk organizers ($9–$25), lighting ($20–$70) and wall decor ($8–$55) clocks in under $100.

H&M Home

Although the Swedish juggernaut has had home goods since 2009, they were previously available only overseas. That changed with the launch of H&M’s e-commerce site this August, which simultaneously brought the online-only range of bedding ($18–$129), kitchenware ($2–$15), bathroom accessories ($4–$20) and decorative objects ($4–$25) stateside. Items can largely be categorized by one of three aesthetics: quirky, as with dishcloths featuring bespectacled French bulldogs ($3); classic, including zebra-print ceramic plates ($4); and vintage-inspired, evidenced by velour towels resembling retro raffle tickets (two for $10). There’s also a handful of NYC-themed pieces, such as shower curtains emblazoned with a map of Manhattan ($20).

Ugg Home

Whether you love or loathe Ugg’s sheepskin boots, it’s hard to deny that they’re supremely comfortable. The footwear brand aims to capture the coziness of its signature Australian-inspired shoe in this 17-piece collection, featuring sheepskin rugs ($185–$1,995), cable-knit pillows ($75–$125) and throws ($195–$295), and leather-handled wool ottoman covers ($150). For the holidays, expect wintry ornaments ($12), plus cashmere and sequined stockings ($45).
