Without wishing to insult the other members of the LA Galaxy squad, not to mention the team's esteemed Dutch coach Ruud Gullit, the recent spike in the Galaxy's popularity is due in large part to just one man: former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder David Beckham, who joined the team in 2007 and arrived to the kind of fanfare normally reserved for major movie stars and world-conquering rock musicians. The team faces stiff opposition from local rivals Chivas USA (1-877 344 8271, www.cdchivasusa.com), with which it shares the stadium. The season runs from March to November.
