Its art deco interior is starting to look a bit shabby around the edges, but Chicote is still the doyen of Madrid cocktail bars. This was famously where Hemingway and other international press hacks would spend their days sheltering from the artillery shells flying down the Gran Vía during the Civil War. Grace Kelly and Ava Gardner, along with just about every Spanish writer, actor or artist of the last 60 years have passed through too.

Disappointing. Mentioned in all the guides, but not worth the visit....regardless of whom frequented it in the past. Decor old and lacking...atmosphere non-existent. On a Saturday evening only 4/5 other people there....this probably due to the hugely overpriced drinks menu .. at least £3 overpriced on a simple Gin and Tonic! Don't bother going there!
this is not worth the trip, don't bother. It was a shabby attempt at art deco, not the authentic place that it's described as. Was empty on a Friday night
