Every Saturday, according to the novel, Don Quixote ate duelos y quebrantes (scrambled eggs, ham, bacon, chorizo and brains) and you can still try them at Casa Marta - although they usually leave out the brains these days. A quaint old place, it's been a favourite since the beginning of the 20th century, when opera-goers and singers would stop in for a tipple after performances. The satisfying platos de cuchara ('spoon food') - warming bowls of cocido, beans and lentils - are another star turn that always pulls in the crowds.
