With its deep colours and lavishly set tables, El 26 de Libertad is over-the-top elegance bordering on the camp. But not too fine to be fun, and a favourite in the barrio - the bar is often brimming with caña drinkers. The food is Spanish, but with a creative edge in the morcilla (black pudding), cannelloni and anchovies filled with spinach and pine nuts, for example, and food presentation is as lavish as the decor. At lunchtime only a simple menú is available, so book for dinner to put them through their paces.
