Ming-tang Evans
Frequented by an over-50 crowd and decorated in a sombre olive-green, this old-school Mediterranean restaurant still ranks high with more discriminating gastronomes. Olive oil is the keystone: the kindly, very formal waiters wheel a cart of bottles over to the table for you to sample with bread; only the best is used for cooking, and there is even olive oil ice-cream (surprisingly good, since you ask). Specialities include the lobster and herb salad, the solomillo with foie, and a fine tarte tatin.
