Many of Wythenshaw Hall's original Tudor timbers - it was built in 1540 - survived a Parliamentarian assault when it held out as a Royalist stronghold during the English Civil War (hence the listed Oliver Cromwell statue opposite).
The hall stands in 250-acre Wythenshawe Park, whose mix of meadows, formal gardens and woodlands is supplemented by a petting farm, horse-riding facilities and a horticultural centre.
