Turing, a hero of the World War II Bletchley Park codebreakers, came to Manchester and helped to found one of the world's first computers (a copy of which can be seen at MOSI). His story ended tragically - he committed suicide in 1954, two years after his arrest for a then-illegal homosexual relationship. This statue, unveiled in 2001, sits at the heart of the city's gay village.
