Frequently described as 'the Godfather of gore', film maker Herschell Gordon Lewis sees a rare retrospective look at his work in exploitation cinema this week.

Certificate X and Something Weird Video presents a night of pure grindhouse fun and VHS trash which includes a screening of 'The Godfather of Gore' and 'The Best of Sex and Violence', a straight to video love letter to the man who brought us the likes of 'Blood Feast', 'She-Devils on Wheels', 'Blast-Off Girls', 'Two Thousand Maniacs', 'The Gruesome Twosome', 'The Gore Gore Girls' and the incredible 'Wizard of Gore'.

Influencing film makers from John Waters to John Landis, Lewis had no pretensions to high art. He described his film 'Blood Feast' as being like a Walt Whitman poem - 'It was no good, but it was the first of its kind.'

Certificate X bring the best in cult screenings to Manchester and you can find out more on their Facebook page.

'The Best of Sex & Violence' is first up followed by 'The Godfather of Gore', Tuesday September 8, 8pm - 11pm
Hold Fast, 50 Newton Street, M1 2EA Manchester

Advance tickets are £3 but have sold out - some tickets may be available on the door.
