A historic 1920s cinema in Heaton Moor is to reopen this October.

The Savoy Cinema has been fully refurbished and will open its doors to the public on Friday October 23. It first opened in the 1920s and closed its doors near the end of last year but is now set for a new lease of life.

The family team renovating and reopening the cinema have previously refurbished two cinemas in the Midlands and brought them both back to life – The Ritz in Belper opened in 2006 and the Regal in Melton Mowbray has been back in business since March 2013.

The Savoy’s auditorium has been revamped to provide standard seats, luxury Pullman chairs and sofas for couples. Each seat will have its own table for drinks and snacks from its bar.

Alongside big name blockbusters, the cinema will showcase a range of foreign language films and documentaries, and live satellite performances such as the Bolshoi Ballet. Children’s films will also be shown as a matinee on Saturdays and occasionally on Sundays.

The new operators plan to show two films on weekday evenings and three – including the matinee – on a Saturday.

The Savoy Cinema, Heaton Moor Road. Opens October 23.
