Hotels

Manchester is in the middle of a genuine hotel shake-up. As more and more classy, modern names open their doors in the City Centre, the city's hoteliers have been forced to take a long, hard look at their properties and the quality of their accommodation services. The big news, in every sense, is the arrival of the Hilton in the Beetham Tower. The tallest residential building in the UK at the time of writing, the statement-making glass edifice is Manchester's newest landmark, with arguably the best hotel-bar in town

The city has upped its game considerably in terms of the quality of accommodation on offer, with the three Eclectic Collection hotels - Great John Street, Eleven Didsbury Park and Didsbury House - providing some of the most stylish options in town. Money is being ploughed into hotels across the city, and many have received major facelifts, or at least substantial refurbishment (often by luxury chains such as Adobe, Arora, Q Hotels and the Principal Hotels group). And the majority of those that have not yet made improvements plan to do so in the forthcoming months. Previously failing premises have now been rejuvenated and even budget chains are making more of an effort to keep up with the local competition. This is all great news for visitors, who now have more interesting and varied options to choose from than ever before.
