Chill Factore skiing in Manchester

Get piste and high in Manchester's slick new ski slope

Although sub-zero temperatures and inclement weather are nothing new in Trafford, the perfectly packed snow and the hot Glühwein is certainly something different. Chill Factore opened towards the end of last year and means that Manchester can now claim to have the longest indoor real snow slope in the country at an impressive 180 metres long and 100 metres wide.

The resort setting means that even if you’re not mad keen on slipping on some skis and going head over heels down the slopes then there should be more than enough to keep you amused. An Alpine-style street of shops, restaurants and bars mean that the après ski is still very much in evidence when you’re off-piste. There’s a variety of different areas including a nursery run for beginners, a luge run, a climbing wall and a snowplay area where kids can frolic safely in the snow. Every Saturday is freestyle night and January 31 sees the arrival of the Salomon Grom Freestyle Camp which gives children of all abilities the opportunity to learn freestyle skiing from some of the biggest names in the industry.

Chill Factore, Trafford Way, Trafford Quays, M41 7JA (www.chillfactore.com/0161 749 2222). 10am-11pm Mon-Tues, Thur-Fri; 7.30am-11pm Weds; 9am-11pm Sat-Sun.
