Manchester degree shows 2008

Find the creative stars of the future

Ah, the sweet signs of summer: office workers lolling on the pristine lawns of Grosvenor Square; Kro’s beer gardens overflowing with chatter and merriment; and the sight of miserable, sweaty students scuttling from library to exam hall as they wrestle with their end-of-year studies. While it can’t be much fun for those slaving away at the creative coalface, each summer brings a rash of excellent degree shows – and none is finer than MMU’s Art & Design Show. It remains the city’s biggest annual art fest, pulling in around 15,000 punters every year. It’s also the place where tomorrow’s creative stars can be spotted and their work snapped up (alumni include Peter Saville, Sam Taylor-Wood and Thomas Heatherwick). Running for ten days and involving the work of thousands of students, every creative discipline is represented here, from photography, fashion and graphic design to jewellery and fashion.
MMU Art & Design Degree Show All Saints, Oxford Road, M15 6BH (247 1705/www.artdes.mmu.ac.uk). Jun 16-22, Mon-Fri 10am-6pm, Sat & Sun, 10am-4pm; free.
