The Warehouse Project returns
Time to dust off your disco shoes and get ready for some serious music-fuelled debauchery
Sixty thousand people waved their hands in the air during last year’s Warehouse Project, giving Manchester a taste of music-fuelled revelry unheard of since, well, since the previous year’s parties. Now, it's back, and its tagline – ‘for 12 weeks this city is ours’ – is nothing short of a call to (disco) arms.
As in 2007, this year’s Warehouse Project stages all-night parties every weekend between Freshers’ Week and New Year’s Day. The biggest names in dance, techno, indie, drum and bass, dubstep and more have been lined up to play. And, as previously, tickets are selling at breakneck speed (the Chemical Brothers gig, for example, sold out within six hours of going on sale).
It’s little wonder. There are few venues in Manchester that can match the Warehouse Project for its impressive (and eclectic) line-ups. Up to 12 acts play on any one night, with the addition of a second room creating space for up-and-coming live acts and DJs. The final programme makes for exhausting reading. As a taster, it includes Goldie, Roots Manuva, Richie Hawtin, Tricky, Reverend and the Makers, Gilles Peterson, Annie Mac, Simian Mobile Disco, Krafty Kuts, Hot Chip, Dizzee Rascal, Chibuku, De La Soul, Hercules and Love Affair, Diplo, Plump DJs, Stanton Warriors and Luke Vibert. Get your tickets quick; the Warehouse Project won’t be around forever.
The Warehouse Project Store Street (underneath Piccadilly Station), M1 2GH (835 3566/www.thewarehouseproject.com). September 26 2008-January 1 2009; times and prices vary.
