Salford Lads Club

Coronation Street, Salford

Featured on the cover of the Smiths’ The Queen Is Dead album, this registered charity, established in 1903, still fulfils its original function as a sports club and community centre, although it’s now open to both boys and girls. The spot is a mecca for all Smiths devotees, and the surrounding streets host regular pilgrimages of often rather worried-looking foreign fans. Inside, the club has a specific room devoted to the band, where you’ll find all sorts of memorabilia, as well as a collection of images that fans have sent in of themselves in the classic cover pose. There’s also a colourful collection of notes covering the walls, with words and lyrics from visitors. If you’d like to visit the room, email info@salfordladsclub.org.uk to arrange a time.
