Manchester Museum

University of Manchester, Oxford Road

Formerly a rather dusty example of a museum in the old-school mould, this building (designed in 1890 by Alfred Waterhouse, the architect of London’s Natural History Museum) received a refit and general sprucing up in 2003, allowing some much needed daylight to reach its murky corners – although its corridor layout would still confound a tomb raider. Persevere, though, for highlights that include a notable collection of Egyptian mummies and artefacts and a striking skeleton of a Tyrannosaurus (named Stan), posed in full hunting mode.

I went to Manchester Museum at the weekend and had a great time - thanks. There's lots of things to see and do. I'm really excited about the Lindow Man exhibition. I can't wait to see him back here, even if it is only for a short time - defnitely one not to be missed. Keep up the good work! Posted on Apr 07 2008 10:50
