Peveril of the Peak

127 Great Bridgewater Street

This Grade II-listed building, named after a famous stagecoach renowned for the speed at which it made its trips from Derbyshire, is arguably the most distinctive pub in the city. You can see all sorts of people inside the green-tiled exterior, at all times, but it gets particularly packed on Fridays and Saturdays, and United fans are in abundance on match days. The pub is also said to have its very own ghost. The brews vary too, but favourites include Boddingtons, Marston’s Pedigree, Timothy Taylor Landlord and Bombardier. There’s a pool table in the cramped back room, and darts and table-football in the front. Look out for the occasional folk nights.
