People’s History Museum

Bridge Street

The region’s estimable industrial and trade union heritage is celebrated in this museum. A potentially dry subject matter is enlivened by an imaginative layout and some surprising artefacts, including a truncheon wrenched from a policeman during the Peterloo Massacre and a lock of Tom Paine’s hair. A quietly stirring experience, which now includes the Labour History archive (free, but appointment required).
