Signs of its former splendour remain – witness the lovely tiled map of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway on the entrance walls, the wood-panelled ticket offices, the tea room and the iron and glass canopy along its front – but otherwise this is a distinctly shabby affair, totally overlooked in favour of the Piccadilly Station refit, its roof perpetually cupped by a safety net to catch any collapses. Regional rail services and the Metrolink still run from here, and the Evening News (MEN) Arena is accessed from the main plaza.
