Exchange Square

Another of the new spaces afforded by the bomb, Exchange Square has rows of amphitheatre seating (complete with decorative metal bars to spoil the fun of more adventurous skateboarders) arranged, like living room furniture around a television, to face the Triangle’s big screen. A playful water feature is occasionally given the washing-up liquid treatment by mischievous youths. Surrounded by enormo-shopping centres (the new wing of the Arndale, M&S, the Triangle), there’s no danger of anyone using the square to get a rest, but it’s an inventive communal space.
