John Rylands Library

150 Deansgate

Despite giving the impression of near-medieval antiquity, this glorious building is in fact just over a century old. First opened in 1900, among its astonishing treasures are the world’s oldest surviving fragment of the New Testament. The guided tours are highly recommended, and there is also a changing programme of exhibitions. Three years of renovation and rebuilding has left the library with an entire new entrance wing.
