Manchester Central Convention Complex
Off Lower Mosley Street
The site of the city’s third main station (Central Station) in the late 19th century, which closed shortly after the railway line became obsolete in 1969. In 1986 the building was resurrected as G-Mex (Greater Exhibition centre) hosting sports and trade events. It was also used as a concert venue – the Smiths and Oasis played here – before the MEN Arena usurped that role. Now with a new attached conference centre (previously a seperate entity, as International Convention Centre), the place has been rebranded, and opened as Central in January 2007. It hosted, as G-Mex, the 2006 Labour Party Conference.
