Heathcotes might not initially seem cheap, but it does offer some brilliant deals. Two courses and half a bottle of wine for £15 on Mondays is exceptional value, and there’s no sense here of ‘feed ’em quick and get ’em out’: the polished service remains consistent at all times. If this correspondent was a condemned man, Paul Heathcote’s deep-fried Whitby cod in beer batter, hand-cut chips and mushy peas would be on the shortlist for his last meal.
