The venerable old auntie of department stores, covering six floors of a listed art deco building, House of Fraser (or Kendals, as it was called until last year, and still is by every Mancunian) should be praised for moving with the times. Unfailingly stunning window displays signpost six floors of high fashion, homeware and cosmetics, a waitress-service café and a basement annexe crammed with designer menswear. Have tea and cakes and check out the fabulous glass and china department.
