Library Theatre

Central Library, St Peter’s Square

How does one of the city’s smallest theatres command so much critical acclaim? Age helps (it’s 50-plus years old), as might its unique ethos – it’s the only rep theatre in the country funded by a city council, and has performances for the deaf and hard of hearing, as well as programmes in braille and large print. But what sets this theatre apart is the passion with which it puts on its own productions. The blend of drama, modern classics and regional premières keep the plaudits rolling in. The theatre also takes on touring shows from companies with a similar theatrical outlook.

Surely this theatre is worth more on Time Out's website than this entry which hasn't changed in months? Posted on Sep 09 2008 19:45
