Vertical Chill
North Face, 130 Deansgate
Step inside outdoor clothing shop the North Face and you may be surprised to see a 23-foot-high sheer wall of ice – known as the Saab Ice Wall – poking up between the fleeces and crampons. The –12°C monolith, operated by Vertical Chill, is perfect for practising climbing and ice-axe moves and, for those Edmund Hillary wannabes, there’s an icy overhang to grapple with.
