The Britannia’s main selling points are its location – right on Piccadilly Gardens – and its very reasonable rates. The ostentatious building and decor will not be to everyone’s taste, but it’s perfect for those who like a bit of faded grandeur, with a sweeping gold staircase and huge chandeliers. A refurbishment planned for 2007 should modernise things, but may also mean the loss of the fabulous flock wallpaper.
