This grand old dame of hotels opened in 1905. It’s had its fair share of high-profile visitors over the decades (Winston Churchill, Princess Anne) and goes down in history as the place where Charles Stewart Rolls and Frederick Henry Royce met. After a few years in the wilderness, the Midland is back on glamorous form after a massive £15 million makeover by new owners Q Hotels. The feel is modern classic throughout, from the marble-floored reception to richly furnished rooms.
