Hilton Chambers

15 Hilton Street

The Northern Quarter has little in the way of decent rooms, so hurray for Hilton Chambers. Part of the Hatters group, the accommodation falls somewhere between hostel and small hotel, with a mix of private en suite double rooms and dorms. It retains an informal atmosphere, with barbecues on the decked courtyard in summer, 24-hour reception and helpful staff.

Thank you for your informative and frank reviews of our little hostel. In reponse to Sherbie's comment regarding your recent stay with us, it is most unfortunate that you did not enjoy your short visit to the Northern Quarter nor in the Hilton Chambers. While your comments are invaluable in letting us know where we fail to meet your expectations and we will endeavour to act upon same I note from a similar negative review elsewhere that you consider the Northern Quarter to be a seedy area of the city. I do understand that you arrived quite late in the evening and checked out at seven in the morning and would suggest that perhaps the short nature of your stay during what was indeed perhaps the sultriest night we have had for some time may have had an impact on your opinions. We are a small budget property that attempts to provide value and service with a smile in an upcoming allbeit eclectic part of the city which is a favourite with so many of our guests. We are not admittedly geared up for sweltering conditions the like of which you experienced, hence the lack of air conditioning. It is unfortunate that you did not bring to our attention your disatisfaction with so many aspects of your stay while you were with us. We provide 24 hour staffing so that in the event of something missing, broken or lacking we can correct it there and then if possible. We added the juice recently after receiving suggestions from our guests to provide some. It may not be freshly squeezed however we have attempted to provide what is considered the standard in not freshly prepared juice... as much as we would like to squeeze it ourselves the budget is what squeezes us on this one. But we may change it should our guests request this. Regarding the smell I can only hope that this may have had to do with weather conditions as discussed above as we have a full cleaning staff who thoroughly clean all living areas as well as bedrooms every day and with properly maintained equipment. We will keep an eye on this as we are aware as to how strong people's sense of smell is and how it can effect one's perception.
Thank you once again for your review and perhaps you may consider returning some day. Posted on Aug 11 2008 12:20

I wonder whether your reviewer actually stayed in Hilton Chambers???
I recently spent a miserable night there for a not-very-budget £55. My stay was characterised by profuse sweating (owing to the absence of opening windows in my room, a fan, or aircon - on the hottest night of the year), going hungry (the advertised inclusive toast+jam had run out and the supposed OJ was actually cheap squash), and by wrinkling my nose at the indeterminate but unpleasant odour pervading the entire place ...
Not an experience I recommend. I should've paid the extra tenner and stayed at a proper hotel.
Add to this the surly attitude of the morning staff on reception and the picture is complete. Posted on Jul 30 2008 14:16
