Heaton Park Tram Museum
Heaton Park, Prestwich
Run by volunteers, this small but lovely museum is housed in an old tram shelter, from which restored vehicles run from Easter to October. The original system fell into disuse in the 1930s, and the park’s tramlines were only released from beneath a layer of tarmac in the late ’70s. The building includes transport memorabilia, demonstration models, a shop and a maintenance pit where the trams can be seen undergoing restoration.
