Manchester Velodrome

As the home of the British Cycling Team, the Velodrome’s track is one of the best in the world, but the place still welcomes all levels of ability. If riding a fixed-gear bike appeals, hour-long taster sessions provide full kit and advice on riding the steep banking (and how to stop a bike without brakes). ‘Revolution’ events held during the winter season pull in crowds of 3000-plus with a ‘night at the races’ combo of sprinting and endurance races, music, food and booze. The Velodrome will close for resurfacing in April and May 2007.
