A cavernous pub with a white-washed 200-year-old façade, where the prevailing beer of choice is Matson’s. Outside is an oddly-shaped bowling green (part of it was lopped off to extend the beer garden). It’s one of the city’s most popular boozers, especially during the summer, with additional highlights being the long-running Monday night quiz and a tremendous chippy (Andy’s) opposite, to satisfy those post-pub munchies.
