In contrast to the entrance’s grand colonnaded steps, the gallery space that hosts a changing programme of art exhibitions consists of just a pair of drab, functional rooms. Beyond is a more impressive and imposing statue of Britannia, with a kneeling warrior beneath a beautiful glass-domed ceiling, surrounded by engraved lists of the fallen. Upstairs, the memorial hall acts as the main gallery.
