Market Restaurant

104 High Street

The unprepossessing decor may underwhelm, but, as is so often the case in, the appearance of this place should not be read as an indicator of quality. The Market has racked up a quarter of a century of excellent cooking and has now refined its Modern British style to perfection. The beer list, in particular, comes highly recommended, as do the pudding club events (at £25 for a main and five puds).

Ive just had a very disapointing meal at the Market. I had Squid Ink Risotto for the starter, and had to send it back because the rice was crunchy. The second one was much better, but still not quite right
The main course was pan fried salmon with cherry toms and courgette ribbons. Overall it was best described as ordinary, though the courgettes appear to have been frtied in copious amounts of old chip grease, and were pretty much inedible
The pudding was ok, a blackcurrant sorbet. I assume it was bought in.
I had did hear the restaraunt has recently changed hands. I wouldnt recommend anyone went there again. And the bill worked out at £52 a head including a couple of bottles of a nice red. Definately not worth it Posted on Oct 09 2008 00:42
