There’s an enjoyable sense of the old school canteen about this curry café, with its plastic chairs and steaming bain-marie (across which you place your order). Asking for ‘rice and three’ gets you a hearty plate of boiled rice with three different curries mingling joyously together on top. The varieties vary daily, but you can expect a good choice of meat (chicken and lamb) and vegetable (from daal to cabbage) varieties, and for less than a fiver you’ll get a heap of spicy wholesome food, fresh naan bread and a jug of mango lassi. The one drawback is the hard-to-find location – the place is tucked away in the sort of alley that you might see featured on Crimewatch reconstructions. But think of the food that awaits, and be brave.
